How to Measure Your Pint Glass Bottom Diameter (Step-by-Step)
A quick guide to measuring the bottom diameter of your pint glass to check if it's compatible with Pint Cones stack protectors.
Why Measuring Matters
Pint Cones are designed to fit 16oz pint glasses with a bottom diameter between 2¼ inches (2.25") and 2⅜ inches (2.375"). This covers the vast majority of standard mixing glasses, shaker pints, and pub glasses — but it's always smart to verify before you buy.
Measuring takes about 30 seconds and only requires a ruler or tape measure.
What You'll Need
- A ruler (with fractional markings) or tape measure
- Your pint glass
- A flat surface
A digital caliper gives you the most precise reading, but a standard ruler works perfectly fine for this.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Flip the Glass Upside Down
Place your pint glass upside down on a flat surface. You're measuring the bottom — the flat circle that the glass sits on.
Step 2: Measure Across the Widest Point
Place your ruler across the outside edge of the bottom, passing through the center. You want the widest measurement — this is the outer diameter.
Important: Measure the flat part of the bottom, not the foot or any raised ridge around the edge. You're looking for the diameter of the circle that would sit inside a Pint Cone.
Step 3: Read the Measurement
Your measurement should fall somewhere between 2 and 2½ inches for a standard pint glass.
- 2¼" to 2⅜" → ✅ Compatible with Pint Cones
- Under 2¼" → ❌ Too small — the glass won't sit securely
- Over 2⅜" → ❌ Too large — the glass won't fit inside the cone
Common Fraction-to-Decimal Conversions
| Fraction | Decimal | Compatible? |
|---|---|---|
| 2" | 2.000 | ❌ Too small |
| 2⅛" | 2.125 | ❌ Too small |
| 2¼" | 2.250 | ✅ Yes |
| 2⁵⁄₁₆" | 2.3125 | ✅ Yes |
| 2⅜" | 2.375 | ✅ Yes |
| 2½" | 2.500 | ❌ Too large |
Tips for an Accurate Measurement
- Use the outer edge, not the inner edge of the bottom
- Measure at the widest point — go through the center
- Don't include the foot ring — some glasses have a raised ring around the bottom. Measure the flat surface inside that ring
- If between marks, it's probably compatible. Most standard pint glasses fall in the 2¼" to 2⅜" range
Skip the Ruler — Use Our Fit Checker
If you know your glass brand and model number (check the bottom of the glass or the product listing), you can skip measuring entirely. Our fit checker tool has a database of 58+ verified compatible glasses from brands like Libbey, Anchor Hocking, Arcoroc, and more.
Just type in the brand or model number and get an instant answer.
Alternatively, if you've already measured, you can enter the diameter directly into our measurement tool for an instant compatibility check.
